  • The Calm

    DSC_0033edit

The sunset at my nephew's recent wedding was gorgeous. So calm. You look at it and see a fabulous warmth that brings out the dark beauty of this side of the Saguaro cactus. This was a peaceful moment after a slightly disastrous one that you can't see here. You didn't see my mom and dad fall off a step and hit the pavement, causing gasps from everyone and sudden action to stop facial bleeding, swelling, tears from loved ones who didn't know how serious this was. You didn't see the horror on our faces. You didn't feel my heart jumping in my chest or see the tears in my eyes or the shaking in my entire body. You didn't get to see the eventual calm that came over all of us when after being examined by a wedding guest paramedic, my mom and dad were escorted into the reception area. You didn't see the calm that came into my heart as I knew they would be okay.  The calm was there the next morning, Mother's Day when my mom cried as she received my gifts. You didn't see that, either. I will never EVer forget it. That kind of calm, peace is available to anyone who asks for it. Even when you don't. You just have to know HIM, See Him. He's simply right here.

  • I internally gasped when I read that your parents fell off a step. The rest of your post gave me goosebumps though. So happy your parents are okay and you were able to have a beautiful mother's day.

  • Even in the midst of the storm you can have that peace if you know Him.  Glad your parents were ok and you had a happy Mother's day!

  • Oh, Gail -- what a horrible moment when your mom and dad both fell -- how fortunate that there was a paramedic right there to see that they were okay!  But I can imagine how scary that was!  The photo is lovely -- and a perfect one for this blog!

  • How many things each day do what not see?  How many things does our heavenly father protect us from?  How many times do we only see the calm?  Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • Thanks for sharing this, it is so good that your parents were not more seriously injured. Glad you had a Happy Mother's Day!

  • its always interesting the moments that we remember and how so moments come into each other...the ones that hurt our hearts and the ones that take our breathe away. while i don't always wish for the painful moments, they tend to make the beautiful moments that much more gloriouss! i'm glad that both of your parents are okay. it made my heart hurt for you as well to hear what you went through worrying about them.

  • Glad your parents were allright and didnt get hurt!

  • So glad your parents are OK.  Thanks for this post, too often we take for granted all the things He protects us from so that all we see is the calm.  The picture is beautiful, but from you, I expected no less!

  • So glad to hear your parents are alright.  As others have said, you wrote beautifully about this and the rest we have in Him.

  • Glad they weren't hurt badly.  How are they now?   Sore or are they ok.

  • you wrote that your mom cried when she received your gifts...
the word received felt significant to me as i read it.
    like the calm.

so glad that your parents are really okay
and for the peace that you experienced...and shared here. thanks gail.

  • @myall4christ81 - @redladybug18 - Thank you! I'm relieved they're ok; it could've been SO much worse! And yes, Mother's Day was so happy!

  • @slmret - Janet, it was exactly that...horrible. Hearing a big thud and crunch as I watched helplessly...ugh...Brianne and my daughter-in-law were both sobbing..  the scene looked very bad. I am SO thankful all was well in the end except for how my dad looked!

  • @TrentTribe - We are SO very protected, aren't we! Sometimes we do get to see what from and alot of times we have no idea! I swear my mom has 9 lives and she's used up about 8. She was near death a year ago!

  • @Lucy_or_Ethel - Thank you so much! I hope your Mother's day was special!

  • @mytoesareblue - You're right...the painful moments can make the beautiful ones more glorious and that is what I experienced last weekend! ( 8  As for what I went through, as I helplessly watched and heard my dad crash into the pavement, I exclaimed "Oh Daaaad!!!" It's like I flashed back to when I was a little girl in PA and my dad and I were racing around. He slipped and fell and I was SO distressed by that! But, God is good and gracious and allowed things to turn out okay.

  • @rileysmomma2010 - @oldfatgramma - My mom badly skinned her knee, which immediately swelled and dad's face got cut open in 2 places and he swelled and bruised pretty quickly. BUT. Miraculously, his glasses didn't shatter and neither of them had broken bones. Whew!

  • @ABAHM - I had a feeling we must've been surrounded by angels! It really was a terrible scene but it could've been so much worse.

  • @mellibella - Pretty surely sore and bruised. On Sunday, Dad looked like he'd been beaten up by a big bully. Poor Daddy. But he's a trooper. Mom aches all the time anyway, so I know this was a crash week for her and her poor body. I really wish we lived closer to them so I can take care of them! (We're 2 hours away).

  •  @down_onthefarm - YOu're so perceptive! Yes, the way she received what I had given her and done for her was like, too much for her to be willing to accept at first. She started to argue with me and I said (this felt SO good), "MOM. We never get to be with you so, this is OUR treat! Let us do this...(something like that). Her eyes totally filled and spilled with tears and her whole mouth quivered...I just gave her a big hu and kiss and she MADE me promise that NEXT time I'd let them treat us. Okay. So, the receiving was a real eVENT. Goodness. Made me feel AWEsome. My mom and dad really love me. wow. ( 8

  • True enough, replica watches boasts a record of every watch it contains manufactured. The identification about the body was confirmed in a while by a man who came forward as Platt's friend, David Davis. It uncovered the fact that man who introduced himself as David Davis was aided by the identity of Ronald Platt while living in England.

  • Jenny (once again) put words to my own thoughts for you
When we look to Him in all things...we are blessed with the peace/calm that surpasses all understanding.

  • SO glad they were both okay! Praying for them to heal quickly. (((warm hugs))) Glad you had a good Mother's Day!

  • Beautiful picture.  Glad your parents are ok.  How scary.

How fun that your son hiked the Grand Canyon - what an adventure!!
