Oh, My achin’ eVeRyThInG!!!
As time races by and the brain cells and many strands of hair go down the drain, I feel every second of my age. Today, anyway. With all my exercising, I wanted to look a certain way for my 55th birthday. Because of how life happens, I did not reach my goal, nor did I look the way my Pinterest dreams told me to look. In fact, worse, as a verticle chunk of a tooth was missing. I have been aching alot, too from all the workouts, making my body lift and twist and stretch and squat and lunge and sprint and…oh goodness, are you exhausted? My expectations seemed reasonable, but I just wasn’t disciplined enough. Naughty foods found their way into my mouth, causing tastebuds to scream with guilty delight. We all know what happens from there. Yes, yes, we do. See the grande mocha frap sitting in front of my friend Patty? mine. every, single, calorie plumped sip. (Lovely Teresa is on my other side.) Well, we were celebrating after all. Hubby talked me into going to Starbucks to pick up a quick drink before we were to head over to the lake for me to take photos. We walked in, and to my surprise, there were several of my friends, giggling at me from the corner where they sat. More friends came in. Then more! All to tell me Happy Birthday! My hubby was tickled to death that he managed this “surprise party”, despite his feeling so tired and all. I absolutely felt loved and special, and nobody really cared that I was not yet down to a size 5 and nobody said anything about my tooth or the hair not completely neat or my nails not “done”…It was truly wonderful! Funny thing is, I love these people JUST AS THEY ARE! None of us is perfect, but from the inside, we generate true love.

I dont think I’ve ever felt more special than a time when my friends and husband all planned a surprise birthday party for me! How special!!! Happy Birthday!
Happy happy Birthday. I would like to be 55 again. A little difficult, since my oldest child is 52.
Happy Birthday, beautiful lady! Wow. I needed to read your last two statements. Thanks for sharing.
You are loved!! What a great day. You are sooo beautiful!
. . .and your husband is AMAZING!!
Please! You look beautiful in this picture!!! Your hair looks lovely and I can’t even see your vertically cracked tooth.
(I cracked a tooth vertically this past week too. I go to the dentist on Tuesday to have it fixed…it’s in the back, for that I am thankful!) Anyway, HaPpY Birthday waaaaay late! Don’t you know that calories at Starbucks don’t count on your birthday…not one single calorie! So phew, you’re safe with that mocha frap…in a Grande size I believe???
You are not giving your beautiful self enough credit for all you are doing. You look great. and when you stop aching, you’re going to feel great! lol. You also have a wonderful husband! How sweet of him (and your friends) to celebrate you.
You are loved. =)
Happy Friday to you. Enjoy your weekend!
Happy Birthday. Don’t fret too much about not reaching your goals, I think sometimes at our age we overshoot anyways, afterall, we are grandma age not baby making age. It doesn’t suprise me how much fun you had and how loved you felt. We like to “look” good (and you do!!!) but when it comes right down to it….really we just want to be together and enjoy each other’s company! Kudos to your hubby for pulling the suprise off! ~Dawne
Even in our imperfections, we are perfect. And you girl, are so photogenic! I hope you enjoyed your surprise birthday meeting~
I would have horse poop covered jeans and a flannel shirt and refused to get out of the car, ruining the whole surprise.
I love all of those pitchers and vases, the colors and shapes are so wonderful!
@MartinTreehouse - Feeling THAT special kind of turns your world around to SO much better, doesn’t it? ( 8 And how have YOU been???
@ata_grandma - Awww. But you could be like a mom to me! Some of my favorite people are YOUR age! ( :
@TrentTribe - Thank you! Never doubt how beautiful you truly are inside and that there are alot people who DO love you no matter what! And that’s how we are to treat each other.
@betheelou - So are YOU! Yes, my hubby is amazing…he has redeeming qualities!
@Elizabethmarie_1 - Okay. And oooo, I’m sorry you cracked a tooth, too! Getting those things fixed isn’t fun, but important! One time I let one go too long and ended up having to get a root canal, because it got infected! EW! So, with this one, I got to the dentist ASAP! Anyway, I’m glad you told me that the Starbucks drinks have no calories on birthdays! And yes, that was a grande…the wonderful barista talked me into “living it up” because she had already been told why extra people were there (and I didn’t have a clue when I first went inside.) Next year, I’ll get the venti!! HA ha ha! As for all the work, can you promise me I’ll stop hurting?!? ( 8 Love ya bunches. Tell your mama HI for me!
@DawneElla - Oh, Dawnie! Yes, we really do just want to be together and enjoy good times….I still can’t shake this need to get myself into the figure I see in my head, but yes, we’re not in the baby-making age. Why do I keep forgetting that??? I think my idealistic mind can’t keep up with how fast time goes by! Hugs to you!
@WildWomanOfTheWest - Thank you, Tami! And you know, you’re right! “Even in our imperfections, we are perfect”. I struggle with that but I know it’s truth. I think it’d be fun to surprise you somehow! Horse poopy jeans and all! I’m a pitcher fanatic, but they have to be just so. My fave is the little aqua blue one in the front; it was an amazing find!
@Richgem - Actually I’ve also been doing those exhausting jumps, sprints, kicks… ugh. And I’m aching… but I am trying so hard to be active so that it will be easier down the road… I figure good habits start now… but I’ll never be all that Pinterest shows me I should be.
@MartinTreehouse -
Absolutely! Good habits start when you’re younger! I’m determined to keep myself going and wish I hadn’t given up years ago! One thing I discovered; my NOW body cannot tolerate jumping jacks! OUCH! And…Pinterest is Fantasyland. I love to look at the beauty, but I must tell myself, I am not that gorgeous, well-toned doll! I am me and God can do anything with me. So, I’m curious. After your workout, and you’re aching, how long does it take you to recover? My trainer thinks we’ll ALways ache, because we’ll be adding weight to the routine. Ugh! I don’t want to spend my life hurting all the time!
How wonderful! You look amazing! It’s not about your size or your outward appearance, it’s all about your heart and lady, you are BEAUTIFUL………….inside and out!
Happy 55th (belated) birthday! So glad you had a wonderful time with friends! Spending time with friends makes me feel so loved and cared for. It really fills me up so I can give out to others! You’re husband is da bomb, by the way! He gets extra points for keeping it a surprise!
Happy 55th Birthday! What an amazing surprise for a beautiful lady!
How neat that you had such a fun surprise! Glad it was a happy birthday!
Aww…happy birthday to you!!! The two toned tulips are absolutely gorgeous~
I know this is late but Happy Birthday! Life is to short to worry about all the little things.
Oh Gail! I don’t mean to laugh but when you said naughty foods found their way into your mouth, I just laughed! It happens to me to. All.the.time. So much so that my clothes are not really fitting me anymore, I’m right there with ya girl! It should be noted though, that you are a very beautiful woman who is totally rocking 55!
It was so sweet of your husband to plan a little surprise party for you. I love the picture of all the little pitchers filled with flowers, it’s so charming!
Happy belated birthday Gail (hey I just remembered, your my birthday buddy!)
I wished you could see you through my eyes…you are truly a beautiful lady I mean that…Happy belated Birthday I hope it was a blessed one…sounds like it was. Mine will soon be here & I really don’t feel like celebrating I am rough for 52..anyway I loved your post & I love you
.
@SealedbyGrace - Ohhhh, thank you, Darlin’! You are amazing and I hope your week is going well! Happy Wednesday and thank you for your encouragement!
@oldfatgramma - Oh yes, Linda, it WAS an amazing surprise! SO fun! I wish all my xanga friends could’ve been there, too! One grand party!
@slmret - Janet, I wish you could’ve been there, too!!!
@celebration_of_life - Yes, those tulips were SO pretty! The person who brought them is a super duper busy gal, so I was shocked when she came in! I almost cried!
@redladybug18 - You’re SO right! I do worry too much about the little things. Thanks for that very wise reminder!
@inanorchard - Hello my Birthday Buddy! You say your clothes are fitting a little tight? My biggest mistake (and something my aunt warned me about years ago), was buying what I call “expandomatic” pants, you know, those yoga things and stretchy exercising ones. I got too comfy in those and before I knew it, my normal things didn’t fit anymore! Aaaaack! So, here I am, having to work harder than I EVer imagined to get these stubborn pounds off! You’re still young enough to where it shouldn’t be too awfully hard to get your clothes back to fitting nicely.
@Mymanyblessings - Oh, dear girl, I think you should pull up the bootstraps, put on your celebratin’ panties and go have some fun! Even if you don’t feel like it! Why? Because you need to love yourself. I know it’s hard…that’s a tough one for me…but so very much needed.
You are looking amazing, girl!! Happy Birthday!! What a lovely surprise for you.
@Richgem - Oh, Gail, that would have been so much fun. One of these days I’ll make it out your way, but this year I’ve been grounded by a kitchen, and then by a staircase!
How very wonderful! What a great husband (and friends) you have to surprise you! I think you look beautiful!
