Mint M&Ms
My 151/2 year old Ryan loves to eat his M&Ms a certain way. By twos; each pair being the exact same color. Does this mean he has OCD? Or is he just being ridiculously picky about this one thing? I suppose whatever it is, he inherited from me because I do like alot of things to be a certain way. In order. Pretty. Clean. Symmetrical. As a kid, I couldn't color outside of the lines. It has taken me a long time to be able to do watercolor and let colors bleed! What a freeing experience to let go of rigidity! Our extremely frustrating remodel project has shown me many things about people; character and such. I've had to let go of certain expectations and accept things the way they are! Like the fact that because someone messed up, the sink isn't perfectly aligned with the middle of the window. Bigger, worse mistakes were made. A gas line in the attic left uncapped. A water line in the crawl space not tightened. Duct work not properly sealed. Electrical not wired right. Gaping holes not closed and sealed. Windows slightly crooked. Siding not put on. My hero, hubby, has been able to catch and fix some of the problems. He had to fire our "friend" on Monday who stood there with a bit of a cocky stance and glazed over look, lying and denying and looking for excuses. He owes us several thousand dollars. We hear this is so very common in this world and know that some people have gone through far worse. If life could be as simple as eating your M&Ms in pairs of exact colors, or NOT, the world would be a better place! But you know, this has been, and continues to be a valuable experience. I've finally gotten to the point where I can not be angry after being burned. The peace I have by letting go of this whole situation where everything was out of my control is amazing. I LOVE this peace! I know that God knows the whole story and He knows why we hired this guy in the first place. I believe He is blessing us. Tomorrow, my hubby's friend "K" is going to come and fix the things we're not talented enough to fix. My man has worked with this man and knows how he is. They work very well together and this one is kind and concientious. There is hope! Kind of like opening a new bag of M&Ms and eating them however you want and everything will be okay in the end! I have truly missed you all and hope to be able to keep up now that things here are feeling more stable. You are very dear to me and I have continued to pray for each one of you!

Hi Gail, so sorry about all the trouble, I just love the way you put things & how there is always a good lesson learned.
I knew that shingles were very painful, a few years back my mom got shingles under her left breast and it spread on around to her back she was in dreadful pain, it was horrible. She had hers for over 6 weeks. I pray mine dosen't last that long. I do believe hers prolonged because of where they were on her body. Mine being on my eye hurts so bad, but the pain is easing up I am able to get on the computer, yesterday it was unbearable. It is also in the top of my head & itches so bad ugh! I am taking an antiviral med & it is working really well to dry up this horrid rash.. I so appreciate your prayers. I pray all works out for the best for you & that things fall into place real soon.
HuGs...Linda
I'm sorry your "friends" burned you like that...a home is something you NEED done right when working on it. "Friends" can prove themselves to be our biggest betrayers. Be glad they didn't take any of your kids when they left the job. God bless and keep you and your family safe as the work is completed.
To your commenter above: I hope your shingles eases up fast...but I have to warn you...I've had shingles four times in different places. It IS very painful and I can't imagine how much more painful it'd be to have it on/in the eyes. God comfort you as you heal.
So sorry for all this you are going through. I honestly can not understand how anyone can do this to people let alone friends. Thanks for sharing.
Praise the Lord your husband is a handy guy!
I doubt your son is OCD. Ha-Ha. Why should peculiarities be OCD? (Like tight sheets on the bed, no gravy in the peas, oraganizing clothes closets by color AND season, putting crayons in the box by color family...and more...)
Have a great day Friend!
wow, i hate that your remodel ended up this way.
i do some of those same things that your son does... i've wondered if i'm a touch ocd, myself.
I love you outlook and your way of describing things. May the Lord bless your new bag of M & M's and finish up this remodel with joy.
Our youth leader mixes M&M's and skittles together in the candy container. He says it is to keep the kids from eating handfuls. They have to eat carefully. One of the boys who graduated used to eat the skittles and I would eat M&M's ...we made a great team that way.
Well Hun, I'm so sorry that this long awaited renovation project has been a bad experience for you and your Hubby but I am proud of you the way you've let God speak to you through it!
Hopefully, with the new help on the way, you will be able to get to your desired result quickly and the headaches will be behind you with nothing left to do but enjoy the finished product!!
@Mymanyblessings - @jans_corner - I think this shingles thing really sounds awful! Boy, I sure hope it doesn't hit me, but if it does, I know who to come to for sympathy!!! Big time prayers to both of you! Love, GAil
@oldfatgramma - I KNOW!!! "FRIENDS"!!!! It's really disturbing, but God's peace and grace will get us through this! Love, GAil
@betheelou - I love your other examples of peculiarities! Especially the crayons one, 'cuz I've done that; when I was working at a preschool, no less! Can you imagine my frustration?!? ( : I learned to let go of that one! Love, GAil
@ehrinn_l - Being a "touch" oCD is fine by me! My daughter is that way, too, only about other things. her room is like the aftermath of a tornado. We could easily drive each other crazy! : ) love, GAil
@DawneElla - Thank you Dawnie! We do look forward to having this heacachey project behind us so that we can ENJOY the repaired results with family and friends! Our new help has arrived and is finding even more mistakes and messes! But THIS guy is such a pleasure to have around and is already doing an excellent job. What a blessing! Love, GAil
@ABAHM - That mixing M&Ms and Skittles is a GREAT idea! I will try that!!! :p And we're definately beginning to feel the joy, starting today! Thanks for caring! Love, GAil
Gail- after reading your post (boy, you have a way of taking one thing and using it as a lesson for something else!) WOW- you are talented (or is that gifted?)..but I am thinking about the mixed bag of M&M's, about mixing Skittles with M&M's and making the connection that life is a mixture of sunshine and storms, grief and joy, frustration and peace, anger and love, and yes, the proverbial good and bad..we have to learn to take it all and learn the lessons God has in all of it. How easy it is to take the peace, the joy, the love, the success , the financial blesssings and yet get so wrapped up and angry when things go "sour', or when we get disssed by the good fairy... yup, part of living in JOY and contentment (like God wants us to) is learning to trust HIm and to honor HIm and to praise Him even when things go bad. that my dear, is the hardest lesson for me! I can be joyful and happy when times are good, but mess with my schedule, change my plans, throw a monkey wrench in my plans, disagree with my plan and OUCH! Thanks for sharing the lessons you are learning along the way. I appreciate your peerspective a lot! You inspire me, too! love ya, cous'
