Be Still My Heart
In the midst of a blustery storm, I texted my son Jonathan. He is a Loomis Armored truck guy. They pick up money from businesses... I texted, "It's snowing!" He later texted back, "Tell me about it!" As it turns out, he and his partner were out on the freeway, where they were going to head north to Flagstaff. Because of the snow, there were 2 wrecks ahead of them. They ended up idling there for hours. I sent out a prayer request and spent alot of heart to heart time with God. I just wanted to cry because I felt sick at the thought that my dear firstborn, husband to my daughter-in-love, father to my 4 grandchildren, was in a bad place. Cold, slick, dangerous. I did finally tell the Lord that I never want to think about losing this boy or any of my other loved ones! But if it is HIS will, then....well, you know. I HAVE to trust Him to take care of Jonathan. I have to let go and believe that He will. I must give my entire heart to the Lord and be still. And know. To really know that He is God and His best really is best. At about 8:00 I felt peace. Half an hour later my cell phone finally made it's little doorbell ring, indicating I received a text message. From Jonathan. Whew! He said they finally made it to Flagstaff! What??? I was SO hoping he'd say he was HOME. But the weather was so bad and they had to take the truck to the "office" in Flagstaff. And spend the night at a hotel, paid for by their boss. The boss offered to drive them home tomorrow. There's at least 18 inches of snow in Flag now. The storm is supposed to get worse. Be still my heart! I have been praying for dear Tara and the children as this is not a normal occurrence. This kind of storm doesn't normally hit either! I know that so many people are going through things far worse than this. But no matter what, it is good for us all to care for and pray for each other. The wind is insane but certainly not tornadic. Our snow turned to slush and we've had sheets and sheets of rain. As long as the trees don't drop big limbs onto our house or the electrical wires, we'll be fine. All I need is the assurance that my son will get safely home tomorrow.

Oh, Gail -- what a horrible night you've had! I'm so glad, though, that your son is tucked in for the night! It rained hard here from before dawn until about 2 or 3 today, then blew hard for a while -- but it's calm and quiet tonight. Hopefully that will be the pattern there too. I'll keep you in my thoughts! (((((hugs)))))
It's good to see you back -- I've missed you!
Oh my. This mother's heart understands. So glad he is safe for the night with somewhere warm to sleep. A blessing to spend those times with the Lord, knowing He cares for us!
Wildly windy here tonight after the rain. Many lights out, I was surprised we had internet!
Gail, hope all is well this morning. Praying for you.
Praying things are better there for you this morning. PTL He covered your son with His protection.
i sure understand that fearful feeling. Glad you got your answer...it's comforting enough just knowing you can maintain the relationship with him to know what's going on right?
oh, ohhh. nothing makes me more uneasy than driving like that.
praying he gets home perfectly sound... and that this is just a winter to remember for the crazy weather.
You truly are an inspiration to me. I love how you turned to your Faith and to Jesus during this difficult time and that you found peace. HIS ways are not always ours and that's so hard to understand sometimes. Blessings to you and your family and I pray your son returns home safely.
@slmret - @ABAHM - @MsWrite2 - @oldfatgramma - @jans_corner - @ehrinn_l - @buana - Thank you ALL for the prayers! Jonathan did return safely home yesterday! What an ordeal! He drove for 40 miles; part of it through "chaos", the rest through dark "moonscape" where nobody else was around. Driving on fresh powder, seeing flashes of lightening, a bit of moon, and pitch black night. No plow in sight. But God and His awesome power, favor and mercy, heard our prayers, and granted a safe return. I am more than extremely grateful, and so is his little wife!
@Richgem - I'm so happy to hear this good news -- but how scary it must have been driving home under those conditions! Hope you have better weather coming ~ ~ ~
Would you join us in praying for Charlie? He is a friend of our family...we call him our "mexican son". He just moved to Colorado to be near our son Nick. He works in the heating industry and they have him working literally around the clock in snow and 2 degree weather. Our son is concerned for his health and safety at this point. His mom says she loves how it is drawing him close to the Lord, but is concerned he remains safe!
Thank-you for the sweet comment you left on my blog! Glad to hear your son made it home safely. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas with all of your family!
@aretheyallyours - Thank you so much! We do hope that this year will be an extra special Christmas! Love, GAil
@slmret - Thanks Jan, for caring! Yes, it was very scary for him, and for his wife at home and for me, his mama! I wish he'd write his story! The weather was much better today; alot of people were hoping to get the electicity back on, and ALOT of big uprooted trees were being dealt with! There's always hope for a better day! Love, GAil
@ABAHM - I will start praying for Charlie! Poor guy!!!! I will pray as a mother prays! Love, GAil
@Richgem - Glad it was a better day! It was cool, but pretty today, but we have 2 more storms coming in this week! I hope they don't hit you as hard as this last one did!
